In September 2023, the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) awarded Phase 1B of the U.S. 395 North Valleys Project with a budget of $230 million to the joint venture of Q&D Construction and RHB (Road and Highway Builders).

The project encompasses improvements to a four-mile stretch of U.S. 395 between North McCarran Boulevard and Golden Valley Road. The scope of work features the widening of U.S. 395 southbound, expanding it from two to three lanes, with the new lane constructed in the median of the southbound freeway. New soundwalls, five in total, are being constructed alongside the freeway where it runs adjacent to residential areas.

Auxiliary lanes between the interchanges in both the northbound and southbound directions are being added, and the existing roadway will also undergo a rehabilitation. New designated merging lanes between each freeway ramp in both directions on U.S. 395 between North McCarran Boulevard and Golden Valley Road are being constructed as part of the project as well, and to provide safer and smoother traffic flow, a “braided” freeway offramp for Golden Valley Road is being built.

In Phase 1B, the mainline roadway work will be Portland Cement Concrete Pavement (PCCP), and in Phase 2, the PCCP will extend approximately 1,500 feet north of the Golden Valley Interchange.
