Kendra Lopez, Caltrans District 5 Scholarship Winner

The 2022 awardee was selected through competitive applications from high school seniors who live in District 5, which includes Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, Monterey, Santa Cruz, and San Benito Counties. The Scholarship Committee selected the candidate based on an essay that best represents Caltrans.

The scholarship winner, Kendra Lopez is a recent graduate of King City High School, finishing in the top three of her graduating class, with a 4.0 GPA. She will be attending UC Berkeley this fall, pursuing an Environmental Engineering Science degree. She has aspirations to become an Environmental Engineer one day and to follow in her father’s footsteps by working for Caltrans. Her father, Robert Lopez is currently a Construction Safety Coordinator for Caltrans Construction District 5.

District 5 employees raised money for this scholarship through the sale of food items in the district office cafeteria, through an ongoing partnership with the California Transportation Foundation, and a generous donation from the District 5 golf team.

Congratulations, Kendra! We look forward to seeing you put your talent and ambition to work at Caltrans in the years ahead.
