Learn the techniques, science, and boots-on-the-pavement expertise of how to successfully design and construct sustainable concrete pavements in desert environments in this new four-session series.

We’ve assembled some of the most knowledgeable and experienced experts in this discipline to share their research, best practices, and guidance on how to overcome the harsh extremes of desert climates.

The instructors for the series are subject matter experts and very engaging presenters – Peter Taylor of the CP Tech Center, Tom Van Dam of NCE, Mike Praul of the FHWA, Angel Mateos of the University of California Pavement Research Center, Dave Rath of Security Paving Co., Matt Fonte, Fonte & Co., and Host & Moderator Charles Stuart, Executive Director of SWCPA.

This free series is presented by the Southwest Concrete Pavement Association, supported by the CP Tech Center, FHWA, the Nevada Department of Transportation, and the California Nevada Cement Association.

Here are the topics for the four sessions:

Concrete Mixtures for Pavement on Tuesday, April 19th with Peter Taylor, CP Tech Center

This session will present the “How’s & Why’s” of specifying and proportioning cements, SCMs, admixtures, and aggregates for desert pavements. https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_5d4gh0knTHaYcUvrYHZgtQ

Pavement Design and Critical Properties on Tuesday, April 26th with Tom Van Dam, NCE

Designing and specifying pavements for desert environments requires a comprehensive understanding of how design relates to placement and performance. https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_6kc9DexUQEqaUWoUmR_G3A

Concrete Pavement Inspection and Testing on Tuesday, May 10th with Mike Praul, FHWA

Pavement quality is controlled through comprehensive inspection and testing requirements. Desert environments present added paving risks that should be accounted for in project QA and QC programs. https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_5hBjceNJRwSFIfcaxW8mLg

Pavement Construction and Performance on Tuesday, May 24th with Angel Mateos, UCPRC, Dave Rath, Southwest Concrete Paving Co., and Matt Fonte, Fonte & Co.

Successful paving in desert environments requires attention to key construction processes. Pavement condition data indicates excellent performance in desert environments. https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_WE7Cc_79Spe-Us_8zyPryg

Plan on attending if you are an engineer, specifier, contractor or technician – from either the agency or industry side – who is involved in optimizing concrete pavement design, performance, and construction for roadway and airfield projects in the desert regions of the U.S. Southwest.

CEU / PDH Certificates will be available for this four-session workshop.
