Shumaker Industries began with Roy Shumaker, a WWII Navy welder in the Baltimore Shipyards. After returning home to Northumberland, PA, Roy repaired a leaking ready-mix concrete drum for a friend in 1950. Word spread quickly, and Roy and his wife, Jean, expanded beyond drum repair into manufacturing chutes, hoppers, water tanks, and other mixer components, growing to an 18-employee operation rooted in craftsmanship, integrity, and service. In 1979, Roy retired and passed leadership to his son, Doug Shumaker. With a degree in Industrial Engineering from Cornell, Doug brought a systems-driven mindset to the business. In 1989, he renamed the company Shumaker Industries, modernized manufacturing processes, and introduced urethane wrap-around blade liners and the first Load & Go Ready Mix Truck Wash. In 2013, leadership transitioned to the third generation as Doug’s son, Brett, became President, with Doug continuing on as Sales Manager, working with his longtime industry contacts.
