The Southwest Concrete Pavement Association recently joined with the Caltrans HQ Division of Maintenance Pavement Program to host two Concrete Pavement Training Workshops. The first session took place in Southern California at the Caltrans Southern Regional Lab in Fontana on September 24th. The second workshop was held at the Caltrans District 3 HQ in Marysville on September 25th.

SWCPA Executive Director Charles Stuart and Caltrans Office of Concrete Pavements Chief Allen King headed up the sessions, which brought together Caltrans Pavements, METS, Construction, and Maintenance staff with industry representatives for two unique days of learning, discussion, and conversation.

Presentations included Concrete Mix Design, Concrete Materials with Lower CO2, Pilot Projects, Diamond Grinding, and a Contractor’s Forum that provided an opportunity for dialogue on the issues faced on the project site and ways to build California’s concrete pavement roadways better.

Larry Scofield of the IGGA presented “Diamond Grinding for Smoothness” and “Future Tools for Measuring Pavement Texture and Smoothness.”

Thanks go out to Caltrans’ David Lim and Reimond Garcia for their participation, Larry Scofield from the International Grinding & Grooving Association (IGGA) for his excellent presentations, and Brittan Ashjian and Eric Hadder from RE Mason who shared their industry insight through “Diamond Grinding from a Contractor’s Perspective.”
