On Day Two of the Inaugural California Concrete Pavement Conference, more than 80 attendees made the trek to the western edge of the UC Davis campus to visit the University of California Pavement Research Center.

With the FHWA’s brand-new Mobile Concrete Technology Center (MCTC) in the background, CCPC 2025 attendees watch the placement and finishing of a concrete slab formulated through the UC Pavement Research Center’s Lab2Slab program using innovative SCMs.

Cemex sponsored the CCPC 2025 day-two visit to the UCPRC, which included tours of the MCTC, along with the two concrete pilot pours, and numerous testing demonstrations.

With coffee cup in hand, Granite’s Scott McArthur tours the interior of the MCTC.

All of the demonstrations at the UCPRC generated big crowds and great interest, including the above Float Test conducted by Jagan Gudimettla and members of the MCTC Team.

Jagan Gudimettla, Project Manager for the MCTC, explains the new Float Test for evaluating the finishability of concrete.

Jagan Gudimettla goes into detail on all of the services that the MCTC can provide onsite to ongoing projects.

John Harvey, in safety vest and hard hat, talks about the scope of the UCPRC Lab2Slab Initiative and the goals of the program.

Leif Wathne, Associate Director of the CP Tech Center, and Somayeh Nassiri, Ph.D., of the UCPRC, smile at the conclusion of the Inaugural California Concrete Pavement Conference. Somayeh organized all of the demonstrations and tests and pilot concrete pours that took place throughout the second day of the conference, and graciously hosted the FHWA Mobile Concrete Technology Center at the UCPRC grounds on the UC Davis campus.

SWCPA Executive Director Charles Stuart and Caltrans’ State Materials Engineer Tim Greutert agree that it was a great day at the UCPRC, and a fitting way to wrap up the Inaugural California Concrete Pavement Conference.
