Timely equipment maintenance and cost-saving improvements enabled CalPortland’s Redding, California and Rillito, Ariz., cement plants to earn the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s 2023 Energy Star certification.
Earning Energy Star certification highlights the Redding and Rillito plants’ status within the top 25% of cement plants in the nation with regard to energy performance. CalPortland improved key metrics to the EPA program through strategic energy management measures across the entire organization and by making cost-effective improvements to its plants, which included lighting upgrades, cooling tube replacements, and flow meter installations.
“Improving the energy efficiency of our nation’s buildings is critical to protecting our environment,” said Cindy Jacobs, chief of the Energy Star Commercial & Industrial Branch. “From the boiler room to the board room, organizations are leading the way by making their operations more efficient and earning EPA’s Energy Star certification.”
