In June, with Chuck Niederriter (Vice Chair), Jerry Voigt and Leif Wathne, I had the privilege of attending in Washington, DC President Trump’s address at the end of Infrastructure Week. In his speech he proclaimed that “We will pour new concrete” and “American workers will construct gleaming new lanes of commerce across our landscape.” It was exciting, it was motivational, and it was the first time in years that we heard such a commitment to infrastructure investment.

Picking up on the President’s comments, our theme for the 54th Annual Meeting is Paving Gleaming New Lanes of Concrete. It echoes a new vision for the future of our industry bolstered by a renewed commitment to a long-term and permanent investment in our infrastructure!

To achieve that, we need you and your energy for advocacy. We need to remind our public officials that the backbone of the Interstate system was built with concrete – and that our material has carried and delivered for decades the products that have allowed our nation to grow and prosper.  The load has been on the back of concrete.  Now is the time for renewal, to take advantage of the opportunities in the Administration’s infrastructure goals and to let our officials know that we are ready.

I encourage you to attend the annual meeting, and to bring others from your company. It’s the perfect place for you to network and share the advocacy you have engaged in, and to learn what others have done. The agenda will include industry updates and technology transfer opportunities. Sessions will bring messages about projects, new ideas, and something that is of interest to all attendees. We’ve included panel discussions and a workshop on our new software, which is the hallmark achievement of 2017. And, you will meet your colleagues from all corners of the industry, who are promoting, designing, supplying, and building concrete pavements. For those of you wishing to get outside and entertain clients, or share time with old friends, we once again have included a golf outing.

Our venue is one of the best! The Hard Rock Hotel is in the historic Gaslamp Quarter, a 16-block downtown neighborhood of exciting restaurants, shops and nightlife. Plus, you are also only minutes from the ocean!

Please encourage your spouse, family, and friends to spend a few days with you in California. We look forward to seeing you and together Paving Gleaming New Lanes of Concrete! We truly hope that you find the program interesting, intriguing, and a can’t-miss event for you and your business!
